Seniors Yoga Classes
There’s no need to let an aging body stop you from starting or practicing yoga, in fact a regular yoga practice can be just the thing to help you maintain mobility, vitality and joyousness as the years tick by and health challenges start to flair up more frequently.
At Relax Yoga we welcome senior students into all our classes. But if you are are concerned about limitations to your mobility there are classes on the Relax Yoga Schedule that we recommend for you, and you can join in at our Chermside West Yoga Studio.
The best classes for you, as a senior student at Relax Yoga are:
General Yoga
Mondays 9:00 – 10:00 am
Tuesdays 9:00 – 10:00 am
Dru Yoga for Women
Thursdays 9:00 – 10:10am
Thursdays 10:30 – 11:40am
In these classes...
You’ll enjoy a slow, gentle flow that feels just right with a small community of students (up to 12) including fellow seniors.
These classes are structured to mobilise the spine and all joints using simple movements, breathing, mindfulness and relaxation techniques which help keep you feeling lively and functioning well.
You’ll always have a version of the movement or posture to practice safely and with confidence because your teacher will l be adapting the instructions so they meet the needs of every person in the class.
It is simple to join in at any time even if you’re a new student with no prior yoga experience.
You’ll feel comfortable and confident knowing that your teachers are highly trained and experienced yoga professionals, and your classmates are friendly and understanding people.

Meet your teachers:
Tes, Jen and Jane have been learning, practicing, and teaching yoga for many years and each carry the experience and skills necessary to present yoga safely and joyously to all the wonderful people who are living in bodies that don’t quite function as they used to.
Tes Steele
Tes Steele is the founder of Relax Yoga. An experienced Yoga Teacher and Registered Yoga Therapist with a Biomedical Science Background. Tes is passionate about adapting yoga to meet the individual needs of her students so that nobody is excluded and everyone can use yoga as lifestyle medicine.

Jen Cahill
Jen is a Yoga Australia Registered Yoga Teacher with a extended training and experience in chair yoga and yoga for healthy aging. Her goal is to assist students to live their best lives through accessible and joy-filled yoga, regardless of age, background or ability and trains to broaden the range of students able to enjoy the benefits of yoga, which include flexibility, balance, strength and evenness of mind.
You can join in her “General Yoga” class on Tuesdays at 9:00am
Jane Esslemont
Jane is a Registered Occupational Therapist with a passion for neuroscience and somatic therapy that influences her yoga teaching. She is also a Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher who is exceptionally skilled at working with students who experience mental and physical challenges. Her classes are a safe space for all women. She sees every class as an opportunity to be of service and to be in flow.

Starting Yoga is easy when you follow these 3 simple steps:
Step 1: Decide the class time that suits you:
You’ll love the friendships you develop, the care and community that comes with a consistent class time (not to mention the mental, physical and emotional benefits of yoga that come with consistent practice too). Start with one class per week then build it if you want. You can always cancel classes and switch between times, so don’t worry this choice isn’t set in stone!

Step 2: Purchase Your Pass
Your classes are only $18 each with our convenient 12 class pack. This class pack will sit on your account and a class will be deducted each time you come. It has a 6 month expiry, which will be extended on request if you take a period of leave due to illness or vacation.

We’re in the shops across the road from Frederick Annand Park at 65 Milburn St, Chermside West. You’ll find parking simple with plenty of parking available in our carpark or on the street.
Wear comfy clothes, bring your yoga mat and a water bottle.
You’ll settle in quickly when you arrive at class 5-10 minutes early – ready to be welcomed by your teacher with plenty of time to speak with her about your specific needs before class begins.
